报告摘要

An appealing possibility in the field of two-dimensional (2D) materials is that of preparing heterostructures formed by stacking two layers of these 2D materials, or by combining a 2D layer with a second nanomaterial (a nanoparticle or a functional molecule, for example). These heterostructures can exhibit new and useful properties as a result of the existing interaction between the two components. In this frame, we focus in this talk on the design of hybrid heterostructures obtained by interfacing magnetic molecules and nanoparticles with graphene and other semiconducting two-dimensional materials. The aim is that of tuning the properties of the “all surface” 2D material via an active control of the hybrid interface. This concept will provide an entire new class of smart hybrid heterostructures, which may be at the origin of a novel generation of materials and devices of direct application in highly topical fields like electronics and energy storage. I will illustrate this concept with i) the fabrication of electronic memory devices based on spin crossover molecules interfaced with 2D materials, and ii) the fabrication magnetic-responsive supercapacitors based on hybrid materials combining magnetic nanoparticles with graphene. Finally, if time allows, I will explore this molecular/2D concept in electrocatalysis with the aim of improving the performance of a catalyst when the two constituents are electroactive.

报告人简介:

Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the Valencia University and Director of the Institute for Molecular Science (ICMol) of the Valencia University and the European Institute of Molecular Magnetism (EIMM). Expert in Molecular Magnetism, his recent research interests lie in the areas of Molecular Spintronics, quantum computing and 2D materials. In this last topic his research focuses on the design of 2D molecular magnets and hybrid molecular/2D heterostructures combining functional molecules with 2D semiconductors, superconductors and magnets, as well as in the integration of these hybrid materials in electronic and spintronic devices. To develop these research lines he has been financed by the European Research Council (ERC) with the ERC Advanced grants SPINMOL and MOL-2D.

710 publications, ca. 42.000 citations and an H-index of 103. His scientific leadership has been recognized in Spain and abroad with various research prizes, including the medals of the Spanish Royal Societies of Chemistry (2009) and Physics (2019), the Prize “Rey Jaime I” in New Technologies (2003) and the National Prize of Research in Chemistry “Enrique Moles” (2009). In Europe, he is member of the Academia Europaea (2009), recipient of a “Van Arkel” Chair at the Leiden Institute of Chemistry in the Netherlands (2003), a “Blaise Pascal” International Chair in France (2014), and a Humboldt Award in Germany (2020). He is also foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (since 2022). This year he has been just distinguished by the Japan Society of Coordination Chemistry (JSCC) with the JSCC International Award.
